Is Thirty One Gifts A Scam?(Another Apparel Pyramid Scheme!?)

It’s likely that you have come across Thirty One Gifts through an email list, on social media or got it recommended by a friend or family member.

Is Thirty One Gifts a scam? The reasons why you’re here is because you have want answers right so, that’s what I’m going to provide for you within this Thirty One Gifts review.

First and foremost I must commend you for actually doing a bit of extra research before committing to joining Thirty One Gifts. For all you could have known, the product could be a major scam so the fact you’re here right now, researching whether or not that’s the case is a pretty smart move on your part.

To be fully transparent with you, I am personally not a member of Thirty One Gifts so I can assure you that I will not attempt to sell you it unless of course it’s worth investing in.

What I will aim to do is provide you with an unbiased 3rd party look at Thirty One Gifts that will hopefully help you to make the best decision you can in the end.

PRODUCT NAME: Thirty One Gifts (31G)

OWNER/S: Cindy Monroe

TYPE OF PRODUCT: Apparel MLM

PRICE: $99 + Hosting parties + wholesale items

SUMMARY: The good news is that 31G is neither a pyramid scheme or a scam, it’s a legitimate MLM company that’s got a few things going for it.

It’s got a fair bit of credibility due to it being around for 16 years, it’s starter kits are not only affordable but also value packed, I like the fact the company is charitable and the larger focus on retail sales over recruitment is a nice change when compared to competitors.

However, the lower focus on recruitment doesn’t take away from the fact that recruitment will still be essential for success, the concerns of customers being double billed is another negative and the very low success rate for the company are a few reasons why you may want to look elsewhere.

Nevertheless, I honestly can’t say 31G is a bad company, it seems like it is solid and some people may enjoy it however, recruiting is still important so, if you don’t atleast look into learning that (check my #1 course out for help on that) whilst trying to host parties, you should probably skip 31G.

FINAL RATING: 2.5/5

RECOMMENDED: No

WHAT IS THIRTY ONE GIFTS?

Thirty One Gifts logo

31G is a MLM founded in 2003 by Cindy Monroe and is a institution that focuses on women’s accessories and apparel. Considering the company has been around for 16 years, it makes sense to believe 31G is a successful company and for the most part it does seem it is.

Cindy Monroe isn’t someone who just walked into the MLM company world, before joining she was actually a consultant for pampered chef and her inspiration came from the party planning/sales parties that consultants in that company used to do.

As for where 31G is located, it’s in Columbus Ohio. Another interesting fact is that 31G is also the number 3 MLM in the party planning sector of MLM’s, sitting just just behind Tupperware and Mary Kay.

THIRTY ONE GIFTS PRODUCT LINE

31G sell quite a lot of apparel, handbags and other miscellaneous things, which the target audience (women primarily) would appreciate. Of course this area isn’t anything I specialise in so I couldn’t tell you whether or not it’d be worth purchasing items from 31G.

The company actually has well over a hundred products, with regular sales and multiple different categories to choose from.

  • Home – This includes home goods, including storage bins, pillows, baskets, and more.
  • Jewelry – This is a collection of necklaces, charms, chains, and other types of jewelry.
  • Purses – This section includes handbags in all shapes, sizes, and colors, including wallets.
  • Diaper Bags – This category includes totes, backpacks, bottle thermals, and baby bags.
  • Thermals – Thermals, in both large and small sizes.
  • Totes – A collection of utility totes, craft cases, and caddies.
  • Travel Bags – A collection of duffles, overnight bags, and travel accessories.

As for the prices for each product, they do vary and the bags will obviously be more expensive than the scarfs however, from what I saw, it appears as if the prices for the products range anywhere from $15 – $90.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE MONEY WITH THIRTY ONE GIFTS?

As is the case with pretty much all MLM businesses there are 2 ways to make money with them, 31G being no exception.

1. The first method is by directly selling the product to other individuals and in return make a commission for the sales

2. You make money through your recruits and downline, by getting residual income by following and meeting certain criteria as well as make money through bonuses and incentives due to meeting company set goals.

HOW TO GET STARTED

If you want to become a 31G consultant, you can choose to sign up via one of the following 2 kits.

  1. $179 Deluxe Kit – Membership fee comes with more than $600 worth of products
  2. $99 Signature Kit – Membership fee comes with more than $600 value of products

So, the initial start up costs don’t seem all that bad, along with value of each kit. However, once you’ve sold everything you will need to invest in more stock because 31G does push the notion of throwing parties to sell products over the average company.

Therefore, it does make sense that you’ll need to buy more products whilst investing regular amounts of money on the organisation of parties.

COMPENSATION STRUCTURE

If you decided to join 31G, you’d come to find that the compensation plan is arguably the most important piece of document you’d need to learn, that’s why I’ll briefly go over it on this section just so you have a rough idea on how to make money with the company.

Firstly though, I’ll lay down the different ranks within the company.

  • Consultant
  • Senior Consultant
  • Director
  • Senior Director
  • Executive Director
  • Senior Executive Director

There actually isn’t too many ranks within 31G, especially when compared to the majority of other MLM’s that tend to have 10 – 15 ranks so, at the very least I can say 31G’s structure is a lot more streamlined. However, I’m pretty sure you will need to recruit a ton to succeed with 31G so, in that sense it isn’t really unique in the way affiliates will achieve higher ranks.

Retail Commissions

This is the first way you’ll be able to earn with 31G. How it works is that whenever you make a sale of a product, you’ll make anywhere from 25% to a 34% commission on every product you sell. This bigger percentage commission will also correlate with your rank in the company.

So a senior executive director will be eligible for the max commission rate whilst a normal consultant ranked member will only be eligible for the 25% rate.

Hosting Parties

31G also have incentives for members you host parties where they aim to sell 31G’s products. The incentive that people who host parties are as follows : For every $200 worth of merchandise sold in a party, an affiliate will get $25 and a 50% discount on one item and one exclusive item.

Residual Commissions

This is likely to be the primary way to really become successful with 31G. How this works is when you recruit new people into your team, they do the same and the cycle essentially continues, you’ll be eligible to earn a percentage of the sales your recruits generate on a monthly basis.

This percentage can be anywhere between 2% and 9% depending on how you highly you rank within the company.

There are also various other bonuses such as an affiliate rank bonus and a fair few others which I won’t be covering in this section but, if you want a more thorough look at the plan, I’d suggest clicking here or watching the video below.

THE NOT SO GOOD THINGS

Recruitment Is Essential For Success

Although 31G has more of a focus on hosting parties and direct sales, the fact of the matter is that recruitment will still be the main way to succeed.

It’s just how it is so, if you’re no good at recruitment, whether face to face or online and aren’t willing to learn how to become good, you probably won’t find yourself being all that successful with 31G.

Customers Have Been Double Billed And Slow Delivery

I did a bit of research on bbb and I found that quite a few customers/consultants were getting double billed and even receiving there products weeks after they had been ordered.

Thirty One Gifts bad

Thirty One Gifts bad

This is obviously going to be a pretty huge issue for newbies because even if the joining process goes smoothly, due to how popular the company is, there’s a good chance you could be waiting a while before getting whatever you purchased delivered.

Most People Will Fail

According to 31G’s 2018 income disclosure statement the majority of individuals are failing with the company and I’m honestly not that surprised.

Thirty One Gifts income disclosure statement

As you can see from the image above, only a little 1% of all members were making a decent to full time income with 31G. That’s a very low success rate, even when compared to competitors. On top of that only around 15% of members made $100/month.

This probably isn’t even enough to cover the hosting parties and item purchases so yeah, 31G honestly doesn’t seem like a very profitable endeavour.

THE GOOD THINGS

It’s Been Around A While

Being around for over 16 years is actually a very solid achievement by 31G and adds a ton of credibility to it. In reality the majority of companies tend to collapse within 10 years so 31G still being in business a decade and a half later really puts into perspective how crazy it is for 31G to still be up and running.

It’s A Relatively Affordable System To Join

The starter kits pack a lot of value and are also relatively cheap when compared to the offerings of other MLM’s. I guess this isn’t necessarily a huge win but, the cheaper affiliate starter kits are definitely nice.

It’s A Charitable Company

I like the fact 31G do give money to charity. I believe they’ve donated millions over the years and even though that doesn’t mean the company is the greatest in the business sense for an affiliate, it does atleast place 31G in a more admirable light.

MY PERSONAL RECOMMENDATION

I personally will always recommend against using a MLM business model to make money, not because you can’t make money through it (you totally can) but, the system has always seemed shady to myself and is kinda synonymous with the likes of a pyramid scheme or scams (MOBE and Digital altitude).

Instead I prefer working with something created through ones own means and is ultimately dependent on yourself and your work ethic alone.

This method I’m talking about is affiliate marketing.

The reasons as to why I recommend it over MLM based structures are because

– there is no need to recruit constantly

– it is a legitimate method that has been working consistently and continues to grow as more businesses want individuals to promote products

– and because it is free to start up, no unnecessarily large start up funds needed.

The service I recommend is Wealthy Affiliate. It’s free to sign up to and will get you set up and ready to start your affiliate marketing journey within minutes, as it did for me when I begun my journey.

If you have any questions that you would like to ask me regarding 31G , feel free to do so in the comments section below and I will get back to you as soon as I can. If you have your own thoughts about 31G and would like to talk about it, again feel free to do so in the comments below!
