Stash Invest Review (A Great Investment App For Beginners!?)

Welcome to my Stash Invest review!

It’s likely that you have come across Stash Invest through an email list, on social media or got it recommended by a friend or family member.

First and foremost I must commend you for actually doing a bit of extra research before committing to purchasing or joining Stash Invest. For all you could have known, Stash Invest may very well be a scam and rob you of your money so this review could help you find anything peculiar about it.

To be totally transparent with you I haven’t used Stash Invest so I can assure you that I will not attempt to sell you on it unless of course it’s worth investing in.

What I will aim to do is provide you with an unbiased 3rd party review of Stash Invest that will hopefully help you to make the correct decision in the end.

PRODUCT NAME: Stash Invest (SI)

OWNER/S:

TYPE OF PRODUCT: Stock Trading App

PRICE: $5 + $1/month

SUMMARY: No, Stash Invest is not a scam, it is a legitimate app that can be quite a good tool for beginner investors but the lack of a website and the fact it has limited accounts, might not make it the best investment for the more experienced investors.

Anyways, the fact it’s beginner freindly, is cheap to get started with and the multitude of useful features it has, does make stash invest, in my opinion a pretty solid product and a potentially useful investment app for beginners.

FINAL RATING: 3.5/5

RECOMMENDED: Sure

WHAT IS STASH INEVST?

Stash invest logo

Stash Invest is an app that was created back in 2015 by Ed Robinson, David Ronick, and Brandon Krieg because they were confused about why people did not invest.

They eventually found their answer to this confusion regarding people investing and came to the conclusion that it was because people found investing unrelatable, confusing and expensive so, this is where they devised this app, in order to help these people who found the task of investing daunting.

SI allows you to start investing with only $5 and they aim to make choosing investments easy on the users. One way they go about making it less daunting for users is by providing 30 different themed investments which are picked out when you answer their risk tolerance and personal preference questionnaire.

Of course the app is designed to teach you how to invest per say but, it also seems like it aims to makes the process of actually getting started a lot easier.

I’ve reviewed over 100 products on this website, both good and bad, such as :

Which is why I believe I have a pretty good grasp on what makes a solid system to invest in.

HOW DOES STASH INVEST WORK?

To get started with Stash invest, all you need to do is sign up through their mobile app, unfortunately they don’t seem to have a website up at the writing of this review so the app is the only way to join them.

You’ll also need to provide your social security number and then fill out the questionnaire they provide so that SI can asess the level of risk you’re willing to take.

What Is In Stash Invest’s Investment Portfolio?

SI will inevst your money into exchange trade funds otherwise known as ETFs. Their system also has more than 40 pre built investments that you can use for your portfolio.

As you know, when you sign up to the system you’ll be asked to complete a questionnaire, after completing this survey SI will provide you with some stocks that you should invest in depending on the level of risk the questionnaire assessed you were willing to take.

The stocks that are presented to you can vary and be a combination of larger and smaller stocks from incorporations such as blue-chip companies, small companies, technology, health care, banking, and so on.

Stash Invest’s Other Features

Besides the basic function of SI, there are a few other features that it offers such as :

  1. Stash Retire: SI has added a retirement investment feature within its app where you can now get either a traditional or Roth IRA accounts with it if you invest a minimum of $15.
  2. Smart-Save: Their smart-save feature monitors your spending habits and basically turns your extra cash into savings which are put into your Stash account.
  3. Automated investments: SI allows you to automate your investments.
  4. Fractional shares: If you want to, you can buy a fraction of a share, which is nice if you don’t have the funds to buy a full share from the more expensive stocks.
  5. Educational materials: You’ll be given some resources to help you learn a bit more about investing. These can be accessed through the app and by email.
  6. Forecasting Tools: The app allows you to see how well your investments and savings are doing over an extended period of time.
  7. Security: Stash uses a 256-bit bank grade encryption to secure personal information. Information sent between mobile app and their servers use SSL encryption and they don’t store banking information for long so you can rest assured that when you use the app, your personal information will be safe.
  8. SIPC Coverage: Your savings and investments are protected by SIPC Or Securities Investor Protection Corporation for up to $500,000 for brokerage and $250,000 for cash.

STASH INVEST FEES

In order to get started with SI you’ll firstly need to put atleast $5 into you account, you’ll also be given a $5 bonus so this adds your total upto $10.

Your first month on the app will be free but, afterwards the money you’ll need to pay to keep your account active and open is a recrurring $1 fee so, it’s not all that expensive to start.

However, once you’ve made $5k within your account, the commission to stay active will be 0.25% of all your assets under management on an annual basis. This obviously means your membership fee will increase the more money you make but, then again if you’re making a lot more money, that small 0.25% probably isn’t going to hurt you all that much financially.

That’s basically all you’ll need to pay in order to stay active with SI, there shouldn’t be any other hidden fees however, if you’re a little confused for one reason or another on how it works, check out the video below.

WHO IS STASH INVEST FOR?

SI is for individuals who are afraid of taking the major risks that are involved with investing and want a bit of assistance in getting them started in investing.

THE NOT SO GOOD THINGS

They Don’t Have A Website

This point isn’t the worst thing about the app but, it still is a bit of a bummer that there isn’t a website considering how it’s an investment based product.

Although not the biggest issue, it’s still an issue nonetheless

Limited Account Choices

Unlike other investment apps SI only provides you with brokerage accounts that are taxable. This means that investors won’t be able to maximise their gains through 401k’s and so on. This also of course means that the more experienced investors should probably stay away from SI as it won’t be very efficient for their endeavours.

THE GOOD THINGS

It’s Beginner Friendly

The questionnaire aspect and the other aspects of it make it a pretty good place to start learning about investing and investing in general for beginners.

Of course as I said, due to its limitations in the stocks it offers, it’s not the greatest place for intermediate or advanced level investors but, beginners should find it decent.

It’s Cheap To Get Started With

At only $5 to get started and a further monthly $1, it’s also a fairly cheap place to start investing in. The also means that you can start diversifying your account even with a limited amount of money.

This is accomplished because of the fact you can buy fractions of the ETF’s as opposed to having to buy a full share.

It Has A Lot Of Features

There are quite a few features that it offers from the security to the smart-save to the automated investments and there’s no denying that these features are a nice touch to the overall experience.

MY PERSONAL RECOMMENDATION

I’d suggest you check out my personal recommendation if you still want to make money online, though I’ll warn you right now, it isn’t something through which money will come easy.

It is nonetheless a great business model for the online space in my opinion

So what is this method that I’m talking about?

This method I’m talking about is affiliate marketing.

The reasons as to why I recommend it is because:

– expectations toward success are a lot more grounded

– it is a legitimate method that has been working consistently and continues to grow as more businesses want individuals to promote products

– it is a very scalable business

– and because it is free to start up, no unnecessarily large start up funds needed.

The service I recommend is Wealthy Affiliate. It’s free to sign up to and will get you set up and ready to start your affiliate marketing journey within minutes, as it did for me when I begun my journey.

If you have any questions that you would like to ask me regarding SI, feel free to do so in the comments section below and I will get back to you as soon as I can. If you have your own thoughts about SI and would like to talk about it, again feel free to do so in the comments below!

Thanks
