Is Plexus Worldwide A Scam?(A Pyramid Scheme In Disguise?!)

It’s likely that you have come across Plexus Worldwide through an email list, on social media or got it recommended by a friend or family member.

Is Plexus Worldwide a scam? The reasons why you’re here is because you have want answers right so, that’s what I’m going to provide for you within this Plexus Worldwide review.

First and foremost I must commend you for actually doing a bit of extra research before committing to joining Plexus Worldwide. For all you could have known, the product could be a major scam so the fact you’re here right now, researching whether or not that’s the case is a pretty smart move on your part.

To be fully transparent with you, I am personally not a member of Plexus Worldwide so I can assure you that I will not attempt to sell you it unless of course it’s worth investing in.

What I will aim to do is provide you with an unbiased 3rd party look at Plexus Worldwide that will hopefully help you to make the best decision you can in the end.

PRODUCT NAME: Plexus Worldwide

OWNER/S: Tarl Robinson

TYPE OF PRODUCT: health and wellness MLM

PRICE: $29.29 + $99 – $199 + monthly autoship

SUMMARY: No, Plexus Worldwide is nor a pyramid scheme or a scam, it’s a legitimate MLM company that seems to be very well received by BBB considering its A+ rating and its longevity is another positive too.

However, the reliance on recruitment, the expensive maintenance costs and expensive products on offer, the pretty concerning side effects, the false claims made by Tarl in the past and of course the low chances of success according to the income disclosure statement are a few reasons why I would recommend not joining Plexus.

Of course in the end of the day the choice is yours to make but, there are just better and cheaper opportunities out there (like this one!) so I really can’t see Plexus as a great company to work for when those options are out there.

FINAL RATING: 1.5/5

RECOMMENDED: No

WHAT IS PLEXUS WORLDWIDE?

Plexus Worldwide logo

Plexus Worldwide is a health and wellness MLM founded by Tarl Robinson in 2006. Plexus more so specialises in the weight loss side of things through their Plexus slim line.

The thing with weight loss based MLM’s and health and wellness businesses as a whole is that the competition within the market is super stiff where you’ll have to compete with the likes of Heal Worldwide, success by health, nature’s sunshine, DXN and a bunch others!

I guess one positive about Plexus is that it is a far more established entity than a lot of other companies but, this doesn’t mean that they really offer anything different to their competitors and in some instances, they even lead to a few negative side effects according to some consumers.

Anyhow, I’ll explain that in a little more detail in the next section of this review.

PLEXUS WORLDWIDE PRODUCTS

Plexus have a few different product categories that they offer on thier website which include the following :

  1. Weight Management – supplements made to help you control your diet
  2. Nutrition – supplements designed to help boost other areas of your health.
  3. Skincare – “Joyome” is their trademarked skincare product line with 2 main products “Day Serum” and “Night Repair”
  4. Personal Care – Body cream & breast check kit
  5. Combos – Combination packages, such hunger control packages or family package etc.

Although Plexus appears to have a fairly diverse range of products being sold within their website, in the end of the day their main flagship product circles back to the weight loss, which in this case is a product called Plexus slim.

Plexus slim is a powdered supplement that you’re meant to consume before a meal to reduce your hunger and in turn help you limit your caloric intake on a daily basis but, there isn’t real proof that it’ll work. Then again these weight loss items tend to work more so on a case by case basis anyways.

However, it is still $89.95 for a full pack so you’d really need to figure out if I’d work for you through purchasing a sample first.

As for the experiences of the users of Plexus’ products, they appear to be quite a mixed bag. According to BBB some users really found the products to be life changing for their health whilst others suffered pretty horrible side effects.

Plexus Worldwide bad review

The whole results side of things from Plexus is very much a case by case kind of deal so, before buying a full package, it definitely would be a better decision on your part and that of potential customers to try a sample or 2 just to see if you’ll suffer from any side effects before taking the plunge.

Nevertheless, as a whole the products themselves don’t appear to be bad but, they are still quite expensive.

HOW DO YOU MAKE MONEY WITH PLEXUS WORLDWIDE?

As is the case with pretty much all MLM businesses there are 2 ways to make money with them, Plexus being no exception.

1. The first method is by directly selling the product to other individuals and in return make a commission for the sales

2. You make money through your recruits and downline, by getting residual income by following and meeting certain criteria as well as make money through bonuses and incentives due to meeting company set goals.

HOW TO GET STARTED

The enrolling fee as I currently write this is advertised as $29.29 on their website however, there’s a good chance that the normal fee is around $35. Just in general though expect the fee to be around $30 – $35.

Now if you also want to become an affiliate/associate of the company and want to promote their products and ultimately benefit from Plexus’ compensation plan, you’d need to invest in one of their starter kits. These kits will range between $99 – $199, so not too bad in the grand scheme of things.

However, in order to continue earning from the plan, affiliates will be required to have a monthly autoship plan of around $100/month as well.

It’s due to the autoship fee where the expenses for the opportunity become really expensive but, that’s just how most modern MLM’s are and it’s simply something you have to come to terms with when joining a MLM business.

COMPENSATION STRUCTURE

There are 11 different elements to the compensation plan offered by Plexus but I’ll only go over what’s offered quite briefly in this section of the review.

  1. Retail Commissions – You’ll make a profit every time you buy a product at a it’s wholesale price and sell at the recommended retail price.
  2. Retail Override Commissions – This is just an extra 5% override commission from the sales volume of your Level 1 downline recruits
  3. Preferred Customer Bonus – You’ll earn commissions when a customer of yours join as an associate (Preferred Customer) and purchases some products.
  4. One-Time Achievement Bonus – This is a rank achievement bonus where you’ll receive bonuses after reaching a specific affiliate rank.
  5. Fast Start Achievement Bonus – This is a special bonus that rewards new affiliates who achieve the mock rank level of Gold, Senior Gold, Ruby or Senior Ruby within the first 30 days of becoming a Plexus affiliate.
  6. Business Building Bonus – These are commissions made when you sell the $99 or $199 Welcome Pack.
  7. Plexus Points – Bonus for helping your downline Ambassadors reach 100PV (sales volume) per month and beyond.
  8. Emerald Pool Bonus
  9. Sapphire Pool Bonus
  10. Diamond Pool Bonus
  11. Earn a Diamond Re-Entry Position

The last 4 elements of the plan are more so for advanced members so I’m not going to cover them above however, if you still want a more detailed look at the plan, you can click here to check out their official document or watch the video below.

THE NOT SO GOOD THINGS

Recruiting Plays A Major Role On How Successful You’ll Be

This is the case with most other MLM’s and it’s the same here too. Yes you can technically make a full time income by just making retail commissions however, in the long run it’s just not as efficient in making you money as recruitment will be.

Think about, let’s say a single product sold will net you around $15 on average, you’d need to sell somewhere around 150 – 300 products a month just to make somewhere in the region of a full time income in the US and you’d need to figure out a system to somehow maintain this on a regular basis.

On the other hand, if you recruit people you’ll be able to earn from their monthly autoship every month and earn commissions from your indirect recruits too meaning overtime your income will likely increase without you needing to work harder.

This is not a method I personally like but it’s just how it is with MLM’s like Plexus therefore, if you’re not already good at recruitment or aren’t willing to get good at it, Plexus probably isn’t the right business opportunity for you.

It’s Quite Expensive

The joining and maintenance fees for Plexus are definitely expensive. I wouldn’t say it’s the largest investment individuals have had to make in order to join a MLM but $1.3k – $1.4k is still a very expensive investment to make.

The products are quite expensive too which may make it hard to generate retail sales as well, which may prove to be yet another issue you as an affiliate will need to deal with.

False Health Claims

The owner of the company, Tarl, has been called out by the FDA for making false health claims within his Plexus website in the past where he was actually sent a warning letter (https://www.fda.gov/inspections-compliance-enforcement-and-criminal-investigations/warning-letters/plexus-worldwide-inc-07302014)

This is a little concerning when you take into account his products are designed to be consumed and false health claims could and actually have some extent jeopardised the health of individuals so, these false health claims made by Tarl in the past, as I said, is a red flag to take note of.

The Side Effects

Although the products are a mixed bag with some individuals genuinely having a great experience with them, the side effects are still problematic, with some of them being quite serious.

A few examples of side effects that some individuals have suffered from include :

  • Heartburn
  • Upset stomach
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nervousness
  • Anxiety
  • Nausea
  • Constant headache

So, yeah this is something I would suggest you take into account before offering a Plexus product to someone else because these effects don’t appear to be minor problems whatsoever.

Most People Are Failing

According to the 2018 income disclosure statement, the top 10% of all affiliates averaged around $13550 which equals to over $1k/month, which I would say is a pretty solid number.

The top 1% of members did pretty well too making $79624 annually which once again is a lot better than the majority of MLM’s do however, according to the statement only 50% of all members made $146 within the year, which implies that the majority of individuals, likely around 70 – 80% of all affiliates likely failed to even break even.

Yes at the upper end Plexus affiliates are doing really well but, every where else affiliates are still failing to even recoup their investments therefore, I can only say that the majority are and will continue to fail as affiliates, unless of course they become really great recruiters. Then again that is a lot easier said than done.

THE GOOD THINGS

The only good things that I personally can say about Plexus is that it’s longevity of almost 15 years in business adds a lot to its credibility and its A+ rating on BBB is great too.

However, besides that there really isn’t anything that stands out about the opportunity offered by Plexus.

IS PLEXUS WORLDWIDE A PYRAMID SCHEME/SCAM?

No, Plexus Worldwide is nor a pyramid scheme or a scam, it’s a legitimate MLM company that seems to be very well received by BBB considering its A+ rating and its longevity is another positive too.

MY PERSONAL RECOMMENDATION

I personally will always recommend against using a MLM business model to make money, not because you can’t make money through it (you totally can) but, the system has always seemed shady to myself and is kinda synonymous with the likes of a pyramid scheme or scams (MOBE and Digital altitude).

Instead I prefer working with something created through ones own means and is ultimately dependent on yourself and your work ethic alone.

This method I’m talking about is affiliate marketing.

The reasons as to why I recommend it over MLM based structures are because

– there is no need to recruit constantly

– it is a legitimate method that has been working consistently and continues to grow as more businesses want individuals to promote products

– and because it is free to start up, no unnecessarily large start up funds needed.

The service I recommend is Wealthy Affiliate. It’s free to sign up to and will get you set up and ready to start your affiliate marketing journey within minutes, as it did for me when I begun my journey.

If you have any questions that you would like to ask me regarding Plexus, feel free to do so in the comments section below and I will get back to you as soon as I can. If you have your own thoughts about Plexus and would like to talk about it, again feel free to do so in the comments below!

Thanks
