Is MaskCara Beauty A Scam? (A Cosmetics Pyramid Scheme!?)

It’s likely that you have come across MaskCara Beauty through an email list, on social media or got it recommended by a friend or family member.

Is MaskCara Beauty a scam? The reasons why you’re here is because you have want answers right so, that’s what I’m going to provide for you within this MaskCara Beauty review.

First and foremost I must commend you for actually doing a bit of extra research before committing to joining MaskCara Beauty. For all you could have known, the product could be a major scam so the fact you’re here right now, researching whether or not that’s the case is a pretty smart move on your part.

To be fully transparent with you, I am personally not a member of MaskCara Beauty so I can assure you that I will not attempt to sell you it unless of course it’s worth investing in.

What I will aim to do is provide you with an unbiased 3rd party look at MaskCara Beauty that will hopefully help you to make the best decision you can in the end.

PRODUCT NAME: MaskCara Beauty (MB)

OWNER/S: Cara Brook

TYPE OF PRODUCT: Beauty and cosmetics MLM

PRICE: $199 + $9.95/month

SUMMARY: The good news is that MB is neither a pyramid scheme or a scam, It’s a legitimate MLM company that can be quite profitable as long as affiliates follow a certain strategy however, it’s still not an opportunity I’d recommend.

The huge emphasis on recruitment, the annoying training period, the strict way to pay and the lack of any transparency regarding the earnings affiliates make are things I don’t really like about the company (and MLM’s in general) however, it does seem like the products are liked and reasonably affordable so at least on that front it’s decent.

In the end of the day if you like MB’s products and wouldn’t mind promoting them, this MLM may be worth trying out however, for the most part I’m not a fan of the MLM business therefore, I personally would not recommend joining.

FINAL RATING: 2.5/5

RECOMMENDED: No

WHAT IS MASKCARA BEAUTY?

MaskCara Beauty logo

MB is a high end beauty and cosmetics MLM founded in 2013 by a fashion blogger called Cara Brook. MB isn’t the only beauty MLM I’ve reviewed, a few others include beautycounter, Avon, Mary kay, nucerity and there are fair few more.

The fact of the matter is that the beauty industry is very very popular and there are a ton of brands that participate in this sector of the market so, yet another competitor in MB will make the whole ordeal of making a successful MB business pretty hard to do, in my opinion at least.

In short, MB is yet another brand that wishes to empower women, which in this case will be done when you become a consultant for the company.

MASKCARA BEAUTY PRODUCT LINE

MB sell a whole plethora of beauty and cosmetics products, the likes of which include makeups, foundations, blush on, eye shadows, skin care items, eye care, outfits, and everything in between.

The products they sell are honestly no different from the majority of the competition and the pricing is very similar too, being around the $12 – $20 range.

But, there is a specific kit that is the reason why MB is recognised, it is because of their IIID Foundation, which is stated to enhance your skin tone, camouflages blemishes and dark circles, sculpts features and creates the “perfect lighting” on your face.

These claims aren’t anything new and I’m sure a lot of beauty products claim the same things so take it as you will.

COMPENSATION STRUCTURE.

A very important document that you must study is the compensation plan, especially if you’re serious about joining the company. That’s why in this section I’ll go over the components of the plan so that you have a rough idea on how the pay structure works.

Firstly I’ll list the different number of ranks within the company :

  1. Hac.er
  2. Elite Hac.er
  3. Top Hac.er
  4. Ambassador
  5. Elite Ambassador
  6. Top Ambassador
  7. Influencer
  8. Elite Influencer
  9. Top Influencer
  10. Executive Director

As you can see there are 10 different ranks that any affiliate can achieve and there’s no denying that it’s a lot of ranks. But, in terms of if it’s insane for a MLM company, it’s actually in the more normal side. Nevertheless, the more ranks within a MLM also means that you will need to recruit a lot more to reach the top and ultimately make decent money.

Retail Commissions

The first way to make money with MB is through making personal retail sales. According to the compensation plan, an affiliate can earn 20% for every sale they make, meaning for every $15 product sold you’ll make $3.

This obviously isn’t a lot of money and you will need to sell hundreds of items to make decent income in this way but, the commission rate itself honestly isn’t all that bad in my opinion.

This rate does increase after you’ve gotten through the training period of making $800 in sales, where after you’ve accomplished this task, your commission will increase to 40%.

Of course, the percentage won’t just go up point blank, instead you’d need to maintain a certain amount of CV to increase your commission rates :

  • 1-319 CV: 20% (on SV) weekly
  • 320-639 CV: +5% (on SV) monthly
  • 640-1599 CV: +5% (on SV) monthly
  • 1600-3199 CV: +5% (on SV) monthly
  • 3200+ CV: +5% (on SV) monthly

Residual Commissions

The residual commissions is what I’d call the major money maker and it means you’ll be able to earn a certain percentage of the income each one of your levels generate, which in this case is the CV generated. MB uses a unilevel structure that caps the levels you can earn within at the fifth level.

However, in order to unlock this, you will once again need to generate $800 in sales and graduate from the training period.

Once you’ve done that, the amount of money you earn from your dowmline team will be dependant on how highly you rank within MB.

  • Elite HAC-ER: 3% CV
  • Top HAC-ER: 6% CV
  • Artist Ambassador: 10% CV
  • Elite Ambassador: 13% CV
  • Top Ambassador: 19% CV
  • Influencer: 21% CV
  • Elite Influencer: 24% CV
  • Top Influencer: 27% CV
  • Executive Director: 31% CV

Various Other Bonuses

Along with these 2 main areas to make money with MB, there are various other bonuses that are discussed in their compensation plan.

This includes the generation bonus, Personal Leader Bonus, Enroller Bonus, Artist-in-Training Bonus etc. I won’t go over them here so if you really want to check out the rest of the plan for yourself, click here or check out the video below.

THE NOT SO GOOD THINGS

The Only Way To Really Succeed Is Through Recruitment

There is a small chance that someone with a big audience could potentially make thousands simply through retail commissions however, considering how the profit margin per sale is only $3 – $6, you’d need to make a lot of sales monthly to generate a full time income in this way.

That’s why I believe the only way to truly succeed with the company will be through recruiting other people into your team, increasing your rank within MB and ultimately increasing your profits.

Of course as you and I should both know, recruiting other people is a lot easier said than done. The first thing you’ll need to I do is find someone who’s genuinely interested in the opportunity, someone who’ll really put in the work to make themselves and in turn yourself more money.

This will take a lot of work and even money to accomplish. In fact a majority of the time new affiliates tend to recruit family and friends. This is far from the best route to take because firstly, family or friend generally only tend to join our of pity and in the end of the day if they lose money, there’s a good chance your relationships could be strained.

That’s why you should learn how to bring in people who are super interested, whether face to face or online because going about it any other way will pretty much be a waste of your time.

The Training Period Is Annoying

The $800 sales requirement in order to unlock the majority of the compensation plan does seem like it’ll be pretty annoying. Even more so when you consider an affiliate will have had to pay at least $200 to get started.

The Payment Options Are Strict

The payment methods within MB are very strict, with only Paylution being available. This means if you’re primarily a PayPal user and haven’t already signed up for Paylution, you’d need to do that and well…it’s certainly a little inconvenient.

No Transparency

I couldn’t find an income disclosure statement showing exactly how much members make on average however, I have seen my fair share of income documents from MLM’s which means I do have pretty good idea on how the results will look for the majority of individuals.

Firstly, it’s quite likely that 70% of all members won’t even break even, which means they’ll be making less than $350 within the year. Secondly, I’ve found that only the top 5% of members within most MLM’s tend to make a decent income. This is a decent income of around $1k/month whilst only the top 1% make a full time income of $2k+ per month.

The lack of transparency is kind of a red flag however, the chances of success within the MLM industry itself is very low too so, it’s not an area of business that I would choose to by my #1 choice for entrepreneurs. On top of that I doubt an income statement from MB would make much of a difference anyways.

THE GOOD THINGS

People Do Like The Products

From doing a bit of research on the products, it does seem like users of MB items to like them so I guess that’s a good thing.

IS MASKCARA BEAUTY A PYRAMID SCHEME/SCAM?

MY PERSONAL RECOMMENDATION

I personally will always recommend against using a MLM business model to make money, not because you can’t make money through it (you totally can) but, the system has always seemed shady to myself and is kinda synonymous with the likes of a pyramid scheme or scams (MOBE and Digital altitude).

Instead I prefer working with something created through ones own means and is ultimately dependent on yourself and your work ethic alone.

This method I’m talking about is affiliate marketing.

The reasons as to why I recommend it over MLM based structures are because

– there is no need to recruit constantly

– it is a legitimate method that has been working consistently and continues to grow as more businesses want individuals to promote products

– and because it is free to start up, no unnecessarily large start up funds needed.

The service I recommend is Wealthy Affiliate. It’s free to sign up to and will get you set up and ready to start your affiliate marketing journey within minutes, as it did for me when I begun my journey.

If you have any questions that you would like to ask me regarding MB, feel free to do so in the comments section below and I will get back to you as soon as I can. If you have your own thoughts about MB and would like to talk about it, again feel free to do so in the comments below!
