Root MLM Review (The Remedy To Your Money Problems Or A Scam!?)

It’s likely that you have come across Root through an email list, on social media or got it recommended by a friend or family member.

Is Root a scam? The reasons why you’re here is because you have want answers right so, that’s what I’m going to provide for you within this Root review.

First and foremost I must commend you for actually doing a bit of extra research before committing to joining Root. For all you could have known, the product could be a major scam so the fact you’re here right now, researching whether or not that’s the case is a pretty smart move on your part.

To be fully transparent with you, I am personally not a member of Root so I can assure you that I will not attempt to sell you it unless of course it’s worth investing in.

What I will aim to do is provide you with an unbiased 3rd party look at Root that will hopefully help you to make the best decision you can in the end.

PRODUCT NAME: Root

OWNER/S: Clayton R Thomas

TYPE OF PRODUCT: health and wellness MLM

PRICE: not disclosed

SUMMARY: For now Root is not a pyramid scheme or a scam however, if they don’t resolve a few of the inconsistencies in their compensation plan which completely go against the FTC, being the lack of offering products to true retail customers, they could very well become one in the future.

There are also other issues such as recruitment pretty much being essential for success, the shady past of the owner and his acquaintances, the lack of a legitimate refund policy and the really low success rate within the MLM business as a whole.

I don’t see why Root couldn’t iron out a few of the major problems within the compensation plan as it is still so new however, as it is right now or if it remains like this in the future, I would definitely advise against putting your money into it.

FINAL RATING: 1.5/5

RECOMMENDED: No

WHAT IS ROOT?

Root wellness logo

Root appears to be a health and wellness/nutritional supplements selling MLM which was founded in July 2019.

This is taking into account that the current acting CEO, Clayton R Thomas, stating he became the CEO in July 2019 although there’s definitely the possibility of the company being founded sooner.

Clayton R Thomas

Other than working with Root, Clayton also seems to have worked with Personalized Healthcare Solution, LLC, Unisource Health Inc and DC2 where he still appears to be the president for PHS.

Both of the other entities are also focused in the nutritional/health and wellness niche but Root is simply Clayton’s first solo venture into the MLM scene.

HOW DO YOU MAKE MONEY WITH ROOT?

As is the case with pretty much all MLM businesses there are 2 ways to make money with them, Root being no exception.

1. The first method is by directly selling the product to other individuals and in return make a commission for the sales

2. You make money through your recruits and downline, by getting residual income by following and meeting certain criteria as well as make money through bonuses and incentives due to meeting company set goals.

HOW TO GET STARTED

If you want to become an affiliate for root, you’ll likely need to purchase an affiliate pack and pay an annual fee for the membership.

Unfortunately at the writing of this review Root does not seem to disclose their joining fees so I cannot accurately display them here.

  • Elite Super Affiliate V – maintain MLM commission qualification and generate and maintain 1,750,000 GV a month

Yeah I know, it’s pretty darn crazy for an MLM to have so many ranks. I’m sure it’d be relatively easy to streamline the ranking structure or just shrink it a little by increasing the range but, I guess Clayton and his team simply want to make the whole ordeal a pain in the ass to keep track of.

As for how the MLM qualification is defined, it’s stated that you’ll need to ensure 55% of your PV is generated via recruited non-MLM commission qualified affiliates.

Keep in mind that in reality all “retail customers” must firstly be signed up as an affiliate therefore, this MLM qualification simply means that the affiliates who aren’t participating in the plan or just aren’t qualified will act as your retail customer.

This is a major problem that the FTC have exposed as fraudulent (per say) in the past but, I’ll get into this more a little later.

Residual Commissions

Root pays its affiliates residually down 2 levels following a unilevel structure. This simply means you’ll be able to earn infinitely from your personal recruits and your personal recruits first recruits.

The payments are as follows :

  • Affiliates (both regular affiliates and Affiliate rank qualified) receive 15% on level 1 (personally recruited affiliates)
  • Qualified Affiliates and higher receive 15% on level 1 and 10% on level 2

Root Rewards

Depending on your rank, an affiliate will be able to earn daily commissions ranging from $0.5 to as high as $2800.

Matching Bonus

The matching bonus pays affiliates a percentage of the root rewards paid out to your downlines.

The potential earnings are capped at the 5th level, with the percentages earned by an affiliate determined by their rank :

  • Qualified Affiliate to Super Affiliate V receives a 25% match on level 1
  • Bronze Super Affiliate to Bronze Super Affiliate V receives a 25% match on level 1 and 20% on level 2
  • Silver Super Affiliate to Silver Super Affiliate V receives a 25% match on level 1, 20% on level 2 and 15% on level 3
  • Gold Super Affiliate to Gold Super Affiliate V receives a 25% match on level 1, 20% on level 2, 15% on level 3 and 10% on level 4
  • Platinum Super Affiliate and higher receives a 25% match on level 1, 20% on level 2, 15% on level 3, 10% on level 4 an 5% on level 5

Harvest Rewards

This is a reward paid out every month which is also determined by an affiliates rank within the company.

Qualified affiliates can earn anywhere from $100 – $35k according to the compensation plan, which really shows the potential for the top affiliates within the company.

THE NOT SO GOOD THINGS

Recruitment Is Clearly Crucial For Success

It’s pretty clear to be from the outrageous number of affiliate ranks available and the fact you pretty much have to sign someone up (as there is not true retail customers) to earn from them that Root is heavily reliant on your ability to recruit in order to succeed.

When a company is almost completely reliant on your ability to sell to other affiliates in order to succeed, it often is a sign that they’re not legitimate, especially in the eyes of the FTC.

So, it goes without saying that this is a major red flag and a good reason to not risk joining Root unless they change up their entire business structure.

They Don’t Seem To Truly Sell To Retail Customers

Root for some reason require everyone to join the company in order to purchase the products even if these individuals don’t want to promote the opportunity.

This is a major red flag and something that the FTC are completely against. This is because in terms of regulations a true retail customer cannot in any way shape or form be able to earn commissions from the compensation plan even if they’re not actively promoting the opportunity.

This was actually outlined in the cases of herbalife and Vemma where the the court shut down any notion of this particular practice being legitimate which resulted in herbalife being fined $200 million.

This led to them having to completely restructure their business as they were essentially acting as a pyramid scheme

So yeah, if the FTC decided to conduct an investigation on Root, there’s a good chance that they’d be labeled as pyramid MLM too.

No Refunds Are Offered

Technically Root does offer customers refunds however, it’s only in the form of replacing products and not paying them back in cash.

So, if a customer wanted a genuine refund and you wanted to provide them with a great customer experience, you’d probably need to refund them yourself.

This obviously isn’t a positive for you and it also isn’t a great thing about Root either.

The Chance Of Success Is Tiny

At this moment in time it’s near enough impossible to accurately quantify the success rates of Root affiliates however, having seen many different income disclosure from other more established MLM’s, I do have a good idea regarding the success rates likely to occur later down the road.

Generally I’ve found that around 70% of all affiliates tend not to breakeven whilst only the top 1% seem to reach the full time income range of at least $2k+/month.

THE GOOD THINGS

I personally don’t see anything that stands out as a positive when it comes to Root. I guess you could say that Clayton’s experience within the business field is a good thing however, as his history is a little shady particularly, I’d only take this positive with a grain of salt.

IS ROOT A PYRAMID SCHEME/SCAM?

MY PERSONAL RECOMMENDATION

I personally will always recommend against using a MLM business model to make money, not because you can’t make money through it (you totally can) but, the system has always seemed shady to myself and is kinda synonymous with the likes of a pyramid scheme or scams (MOBE and Digital altitude).

Instead I prefer working with something created through ones own means and is ultimately dependent on yourself and your work ethic alone.

This method I’m talking about is affiliate marketing.

The reasons as to why I recommend it over MLM based structures are because

– there is no need to recruit constantly

– it is a legitimate method that has been working consistently and continues to grow as more businesses want individuals to promote products

– and because it is free to start up, no unnecessarily large start up funds needed.

The service I recommend is Wealthy Affiliate. It’s free to sign up to and will get you set up and ready to start your affiliate marketing journey within minutes, as it did for me when I begun my journey.

If you have any questions that you would like to ask me regarding root, feel free to do so in the comments section below and I will get back to you as soon as I can. If you have your own thoughts about root and would like to talk about it, again feel free to do so in the comments below!
